The Season 8 premiere of The Walking Dead will also serve as the 100th overall episode of the series. Simon Actor Steven Ogg sat down with ComicBook.com to talk all things Walking Dead, including the big episode 100 which he already filmed. From the sounds of it, fans should be excited.
“Yeah, it’s a big, big show,” Ogg said. “I mean I really didn’t think about the one hundred things so much as it’s, where it says it’s all out war, you definitely get that. Oh yeah. It’s all out war.”
Key art for the upcoming eighth season confirms that the zombie drama will return for its 100th episode on Sunday, October 22 on AMC in the US, and on FOX in the UK on Monday, October 23 — so, just a little month to go now!
The poster shows Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) staring down the villainous Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) teasing the war that commenced at the climax of season seven.
Showrunner Scott Gimple teased the episodes to come after releasing the forthcoming season’s first photo showing original characters Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), saying: “The season finale last year, seeing all the characters together interacting as one, was thrilling. Season [eight] is that times a million.”
The Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 1 Spoilers
Showrunner Scott Gimple recently revealed the trajectory of the 100th episode as well as the rest of the upcoming season.
“The way we plan ahead is to live in abject terror and anxiety. It isn’t about necessarily planning the 100th episode, it is sort of about planning the next 100 episodes,” Gimple said. “In a lot of ways, we’ve planned out this show into many seasons from now. The comic book affords us that and then the inspiration we get from the comic and things we want to see more of.”
“What I’m hoping for the season premiere to be next year is the kick off of the next 100 episodes. The promise of more story and another future. Every eight episodes we try to reinvent ourselves and we’re gonna try and do it again.”
Season 8 also promises to adhere closer to the comics than the show has been since the first season. With a more action-packed premise, less straying from the comics, and tensions at an all-time high, season 8 could reignite excitement for the show.
Talking about The Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 1 , showrunner Scott Gimple said, certainly it starts with a big bang and then continues to ramp up, which is really exciting. I know the audience will be really happy with certainly how it starts because they’re taking the fight back, and then every single episode in the first half there’s a moment which makes you go, ‘Wow, oh my god, I can’t believe that.’”
Payne might be referring to the “Old Man Rick” moment that happened at the end of the TWD Season 8 trailer. With how slow and meandering last season was, hopefully, with the onset of imminent war, Season 8 will be much more action-packed.
