Greg Nicotero Reveals Exactly How ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 8 Starts

The Walking Dead executive producer Greg Nicotero has revealed the opening shot of season 8 and claims that the scene sets the overall tone for the remainder of the season. Viewers may remember that the last season of The Walking Dead concluded with all out war being declared between the Alexandria, Hilltop, Kingdom alliance and Negan’s Saviors (who seemingly have The Junkyard Community on their side).

According to one of the major resources, the Walking Dead Season 8 premiere will open with a close-up shot of the show’s main character, Rick Grimes. From that point, the show will be focused mostly on Rick. The show’s producer, Greg Nicotero, reveals that it will be Rick (Andrew Lincoln) who “dominates the plot, not Negan.” Wow! That sounds really Great.. Isn’t it?

The Walking Dead Season 8 Opening Spoilers

Producer Greg Nicotero has revealed to ComicBook.com that the Season 8 premiere on Oct. 22 will open with a shot of our hero Rick Grimes. From there, the show will remain focused on him.

One of the biggest criticisms of Season 7 was its overwhelming focus on Negan, “TWD’s” new major villain. But Nicotero’s words and the recent trailer for Season 8 suggest the show will remain true to its roots.

However, it appears that The Walking Dead may be going back to its roots in season eight by returning focus to its lead protagonist. Executive producer Greg Nicotero has revealed exactly what the new season’s opening shot will be and how this will dictate the focus of the new run of episodes. Nicotero states:

“We start Episode 8.01 on a close-up of Rick Grimes and we really get a sense that he’s driving our story, not Negan.”

As for that “close-up shot” of Rick, Nicotero could be referring to the “Old Man Rick” footage seen at the end of the Season 8 trailer.

By the sound of Nicotero’s description, fans may have gotten a look at this early moment in above Season Eight trailer.

The Walking Dead Season 8 premieres on AMC on Sunday, October 22nd.
